William Earle
William's first functional sculpture, 'glove box' when shown in a Los Angeles gallery was quickly purchased by producer Joel Silver ( Lethal Weapon, Die Hard, The Matrix ) and installed in his South Carolina home, Auldbrass, the Frank Lloyd Wright masterpiece.
The 'hal' table followed in 2000 and singularly ignited the faceted craze. William was selected to represent Surface magazine at the Salon del Mobile 2004 in Milan. When asked to compare European designers to American by Metropolis magazine in 2006, Cooper - Hewitt National Design Museum curator Ellen Lupton observed that, as American design was more pragmatic and the Europeans more conceptual, William Earle broke the mold by being a minimalist.
In 2008 the artist's 'Nude Descending Table' was commissioned by the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and sold through the museum store.
Covering the launch of the first luxury interior furnishings web site, Gilt Home, in 20011, Forbes likened the solitary artist to international mega brands Missoni, Frette and Stark.
William's New York City showroom commissioned his 'Woodcutter's Chase' to display at the 2012 International Contemporary Furniture Fair in New York where the lounge won a 'Best Design of the Year' award from Interior Design magazine. Today the artist's work is seen everywhere, from the camp of Penn, Yale and Harvard, as displays on the floors of Bergdorf Goodman, Macy's and Bloomingdales, in ads for Hugo Boss and Ralph Lauren and the lobby of Trump Tower.
