About the Item

An Extremely Attractive And Very Good Quality Early 18th Century, George I Period, Oak Lowboy, Or Side Table, Having Superb Untouched Colour And Surface Throughout, The Well Figured Rectangular Top With Thumb Moulded Edge, Over Three Drawers Retaining Original Brass Plate Handles And Elegant Shaped Frieze, Raised On Four Bold Cabriole Legs And Original Pad Feet. Throughout the first half of the 18th century any form of side table was generally referred to as a lowboy and always constructed from rich, attractive solid timbers and veneers due to the plentiful supply of it at the time. This is a great nice of its type, exuding charm and elegance with its shaped frieze and beautiful cabriole legs. It is also relative uncommon to find oak examples of these, especially ones that are this elegant and have retained such a wonderful colour and patina to the oak timbers which really adds to the overall charm of the piece. Ageing well means retaining a lovely warm colour and original brasswear as mentioned above which is quite rare on an item of furniture of this age and also its in a generally good and solid condition, with a few historic lumps, bumps, scrapes and general signs of age, but nothing which is out of keeping for an item this old. Indeed we would say the condition is actually very good and that clearly this oak lowboy has been well loved, but also well used throughout its life. As with all items which we offer for sale this oak side table has been inspected in our workshops by our highly skilled, trained traditional antique furniture restorers and received a natural wax polish to ensure it is in its best possible condition and ready to be placed straight into the home before being offered for sale. Circa 1720. Height 27.5in. Width 34.5in. Depth 19in.
