About

Solid pine table designed by Axel Einar Hjorth and produced for Stockholm department store Nordiska Kompaniet in the 1930s.

He was the store's chief interior architect. The tables are quite rare and ended up being produced in a small quantity as the 1930s clientele found the common pine, simple craftsmanship and modern lines too progressive for the time. However, Hjorth is often recognized as a precursor to Charlotte Perriand, Pierre Chapo, Jean Royere, and Josef Frank, and his iconic works are coveted today.

The table exhibits a brilliant patina.
