English Regency Period Mahogany Converted Bedstep Commode with Leather Treads

About the Item

English Regency period flame grain mahogany converted bedstep commode with hand dyed and tooled leather treads. The central step has been converted to a drawer, the tread hinges up, the step slides out and full access to the space is available. The top step also hinges up for another storage space. The leather treads are replacements (originally there was carpet); the second step was converted from a commode to a normal drawer. This form of furniture is often used as an end table, or in a library as an extra table that can also double as a step stool. Circa 1820.
