Georgian 18th Century Mahogany Pot Stand 'or Kettle Stand', English, Rare Form

$19,500

About

This is an outstanding quality George III English pot stand or kettle stand; of a most unusual and rare form, with the hand carved twist, threaded column top affixing the base and the top together (see image). Copious, elaborate fine quality carving adorn the stand starting with a hand carved pierced gallery top surrounding the entire circumference of the stand, supported by a fluted column and finely carved floral and acanthus leaves from the center column, over the knee of the cabriole legs; all in in exquisite detail, and ending in beautifully carved ball and claw oval pad feet simulating eagle talons. Top of the line construction, balance, and design along with rare form and unique style make this an appropriate acquisition for even the most discerning collector of high end antique furniture. The condition of this circa 1775 mahogany stand is excellent and all original, with a superb finish to the surface, and a warm patina. It is very sturdy and sound, and maintains the original forged iron connector plate on the underneath, joining the three legs at the fulcrum of the base (see image). Dimensions: 23" high (top of gallery 13" diameter x 19" wide (foot to foot).
