About the Item

Experience the luxurious beauty of natural Southern white oak with the Hyo Table in salvaged white oak. Crafted from an urban hardwood favorite, white oak, this cube side table exudes rustic elegance and quiet luxury. Its minimalist design makes it versatile for any interior style, from contemporary to traditional. Spalted wood is beautiful. It’s a form of rotting, and it’s caused by fungi. Spalting comes in many forms: patterns, colors, textures. We use salvaged Southern white oak from the local urban environment. We use modern woodworking skills to elevate the knots and grain variation, then add a urethane sealer. Durable and versatile, cluster several Hyos for a coffee table. Use a pair for bedside tables. Place one in a seating arrangement to activate the space with layered, organic beauty. They are also sturdy enough to use as informal seating. A field-to-studio company, Alabama Sawyer repurposes the finest wood species, reclaimed from our local urban forests, to create one of a kind furniture pieces and accessories for the home or business. The color is natural white oak. There is no stain, so the color may vary. The urban wood features variations inherent to salvaged materials such as a rustic distressed finish, visible knots, hairline cracks and natural stains, which may result in hue variations, rubbed edges, or other antique-like characteristics, that are part of the rustic beauty of these side tables. If the finish cracks or chips, you may see some oak underneath. This is the nature of natural materials and what our customers tell us they love about having urban wood in their home. This is a living finish. Natural materials and will age over time and with exposure to the elements—the more exposure, the quicker they will age. As with all wood, but especially a large solid volume, expansion and contraction due to temperature variability may occur.
