Maison Jansen Original Swan Table, Signed, 1960's

About the Item

This lovely table is composed of a composite swan in ivory colour placed on a lacquered base. The head of the swan and two brass rods hold the glass top. At the base of the swan is signed "Jansen" and the whole is in original condition. This Regency style table is a beautiful and unique example of Jansen's exclusive design in the Hollywood Regency style. It will find its place in an entryway, or in a room of your choice. Its elegance allows it to fit perfectly into a Far Eastern, Art Deco or Art Nouveau decor. The romanticism of these graceful birds has always been a source of fascination. From ancient Greece to Siberia and Asia Minor, not to mention the Slavic and Germanic peoples, a vast body of myths, traditions and poems celebrate the swan, a pristine bird whose whiteness makes it the royal symbol of beauty, purity and rebirth. It is a majestic animal that embodies power, grace, elegance and refinement. It inspires nobility and greatness of soul. The Swan symbolizes love, fidelity and love affair. Swans pair up for life, even though each one is a unique individual. They are very protective of their partner, their nest and their young. It shows its love to its partner by making their beaks touch to kiss, which results in them drawing a heart shape together. In an entrance or in a room this console can fit in a decoration in the style of Art Nouveau, Art Deco or for a decoration inspired by the Far East. The swan is a source of artistic inspiration, in symbolism and expressive language, the swan is also very present, in the Far East, it represents elegance, nobility and courage. In Siberia, it is a subject of devotion and women bow to the first bird they see pass in the spring. The swan inspired painters including Correggio and Leonardo da Vinci as well as Walter Crane, Louis John Rhead, Jean Dunand … Maison Jansen The House of Jansen is a French interior design and furniture production company, founded in Paris in 1880 by the Dutch Duke Jean-Henri Jansen. The company enjoyed a considerable reputation and had a number of well-known international clients throughout the 20th century, which gave it a glamorous reputation as a furniture icon. This house became much more than a fashion reference, always on the lookout for new emerging trends. It developed a timeless style, which seems timeless and will deeply mark and influence the history of decorative arts. She was very interested in traditional furnishings, seeking to provide exact copies of 19th and 18th century furniture. She buys many antiques on the market and progressively builds up an impressive bank of archive photos of furniture and decoration from all periods to satisfy her clients. She also created more contemporary pieces, taking into account the different fashions that followed from the end of the 19th century to the middle of the 20th century, including the Turkish style, Japonism, Art Nouveau, Art Deco and Modern Art. On the strength of her success, she opened numerous workshops and galleries in all the major cities likely to welcome a high-end clientele, such as New York or Buenos Aires. In these galleries she organises numerous exhibitions which allow her to increase her visibility and bring her more and more new and rich clients. Jansen worked for the royal families of Belgium, Iran and Serbia; for Lady Olive Baillie at her castle in Leeds, Kent; and for the White House under John F. Kennedy. The House of Jansen decorated the yacht Chambel IV, now known as NorthWind II, which was one of its last achievements. Among his clients, without mentioning an exhaustive list, are the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, King Leopold II, the Shah of Iran.
