An uncommon and strikingly chic circa 1980 campaign-style side table or cocktail table with orange shagreen top and polished nickel X-shaped base.
Wood top is clad in genuine light orange dyed shagreen, with six skillfully cut and applied rectangular hides and matching trim handsomely displaying the distinctive pebbled texture that makes the relatively exotic natural material synonymous with luxury goods.
Campaign-style base is chrome-polished nickel-plated steel, convincingly designed to look like it could fold, though it does not. The base—along with the top—give the table a very clean and crisp aesthetic that would work well in a contemporary interior.
Materials, craftsmanship, and design suggest that this piece was originally offered in high-end showrooms and only available to the trade.
