About the Item
Pair of side tables attributed to Eliel Saarinen, early 20th century. Painted wood. From the Munkkiniemi Cadet School in Finland whose archives contain pictures of very similar furniture. Good vintage condition, patina and minor wear consistent with age and use. The side tables are sold as a set.
Eliel Saarinen achieved international fame at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries for the Art Nouveau buildings he designed for Finland and as an exhibition architect. His urban plans for Helsinki outlined growth trends for the capital that have only recently been realised. Saarinen moved to the United States in the 1920s, where he designed skyscrapers and taught architecture.
