About the Item
Vintage Pair Of Oval Campaign Three Tier Buffet, What Not Stands.
A great pair of oval mahogany and brass campaign étagères. The three tier stands with three shelves are separated by brass columns terminating in heavy shaped round feet and topped with well shaped brass finials, the top shelf with a brass gallery to the rear. The brass tubing has been replaced as the original was plated steel tubing and most of the brass plating had corroded. Having a pair makes these campaign étagères very usable as bedside tables, side tables, buffets etc. Made in the manner of the the early campaign washstands that the army officers were known to use. These were very effective pieces of campaign furniture as they were very quick and simple to put up and dismantle.
The shelves can be easily packed down and transported by first unscrewing the brass finials from the top shelf, which then can be removed. The next row of brass columns that supported the top shelf can then also be unscrewed, thus allowing the second shelf to be removed. The last shelf, the four brass feet are unscrewed from the columns and the whole piece has been dismantled leaving you with 16 brass pieces and three wooden shelves.
