Panne Side Table (Dutch design, 2023) by Paul&Albert
About the Item
With Panne, Paul&Albert embraced imperfection. This side table is a reference to car breakdowns. The table is supported solely by the use of a car jack. Even the handle of the jack is incorporated into the design. The table is entirely made of steel, and we have deliberately left the rough weld seams visible. The weld seams emphasize the interplay of lines. It’s precisely the imperfection and rawness that give this design a unique character. Panne is painted in bright yellow (RAL 1023). The car jack is originally blue. The colors yellow and blue are a reference to the Dutch Roadside assistance. Panne means car breakdown in Dutch. Panne is signed and numbered.

Paul&Albert
Paul Mulder and Albert Buring met at the Minerva art academy in Groningen, where they both studied graphic design. After some years of cooperation there was a gradual shift from graphic to spatial work. They began to execute their concepts more and more spatially, with the graphic work slowly fading into the background. They found that they could express their ideas more strongly in spatial work, giving it more eloquence and value. They became fascinated by the world of art and design. In 2019, they made the rigorous decision to stop their graphic design work and throw themselves entirely into making art and design. The graphic signature is still sometimes recognizable in their current work.
