About the Item

Philipp Mainzer Backenzahn Black Oak Side Table for e15. Germany, current production. e15 celebrates 25 years of BACKENZAHN™ by Philipp Mainzer with a new edition in tannin black finish. Introduced as part of the e15 SELECTED collection, the matte-black finish highlights the alchemic process that produces a natural tannic acid reaction in the oak wood, when triggered with a special mixture of natural ingredients. The original BACKENZAHN™ designed in 1996 by e15 founder and architect Philipp Mainzer is a modern design classic as well as an identifiable icon for e15. Crafted in Germany, the stool (with shaped seat) or the side table (with flat top) is offered in oiled European oak or walnut. For its signature form and detail the centre of the tree is used. During the seasoning of the solid wood, the legs form their characteristic cracks, which make every stool unique. Born in Germany, Philipp Mainzer studied product design at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, and architecture at the Architectural Association both in London. In 1995, Philipp Mainzer co-founded the modern furniture brand e15. Having established the progressive, enduring philosophy and unique branding of e15, he has received international awards for many of his designs, which are identifying icons for e15 and part of several permanent exhibitions in museums. Parallel to the creation of e15, Philipp Mainzer practiced architecture in New York and continues to do so since his return to Germany in 2001. He is a member of the executive committee of German Design Council and regularly gives lectures on architecture, design and branding. Philipp Mainzer is creative and managing director of e15 and his architecture office PHILIPP MAINZER OFFICE FOR ARCHITECTURE AND DESIGN. Prices are including 21% VAT. Burned Ode side table by Sizar Alexis Signed and Numered Edition of 12 Dimensions: Length 44 x width 35 x height 40 cm Materials: Burned pine wood The hexagon has more to it than we think, and some of the aspects of this shape are still mysterious. The series is an ode to the aesthetics that I fell in love with in a geometrical sculptural works of art and the interesting perfect form of the historical hexagon. It's fascinating how hexagons are part of our life but fail to realize this. It all comes down to the element that is present throughout our body, and that is carbon. The use of the form dates back to ancient Mesopotamia...
