About the Item

This low table combines a traditional Japanese wooden top and legs. The top is crafted from a single piece of luxurious cedar, enveloping the entire piece with its soft, warm grain. Its color, which has deepened over time, is a beauty impossible to replicate in modern furniture. Once used as a workbench, the surface bears fine scratches and work marks, but these are actually a quiet charm, testament to its long history. The legs, too, have a history of supporting old workbenches, and their rugged yet powerful form is striking. The harmonious encounter between these two pieces of aged wood, as if they had always been one, creates a truly unique piece. This combination is truly miraculous. With a generous overall length of 191cm, it will stand out even when paired with a large sofa or lounge chair, making it a majestic centerpiece in your living room. The top is relatively straight with little warping, making it highly practical, and the tops of the legs are lined with urethane foam to prevent wobbling. This table blends beautifully into not only Japanese-style rooms with a wabi-sabi aesthetic, but also primitive spaces, Scandinavian and industrial-inspired living rooms, and chic spaces featuring antique furniture. Its height, close to the floor, adds a sense of calm to the space, creating ample space between pieces of furniture and elevating the overall ambiance of the room. Place it on your favorite rug as a table for enjoying coffee or wine. Or, display art and objects as a gallery table. Just having this table will transform your everyday life into something a little more special. Tabletop Size: W 191.5cm x D 66.5cm x H 2.6cm Tabletop Weight: 13.25kg Leg Weight: 9.6kg Product Number: TA124 [Our Social Role] -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We are a specialized team dealing in antiques and vintage items, comprised of stores based on three distinct brands. While focusing on Japanese items, we also offer a carefully curated selection of attractive goods from around the world—each evoking the culture and history of its country of origin. Unlike the traditional Japanese antique furniture and art that have been appreciated overseas until now, we shine a light on the tools and furniture that were used for many years in ordinary Japanese homes and farmhouses. These objects have gained a unique charm over time, their beauty deepened by the history accumulated through daily life. In today’s world, however, many of these precious items are discarded during home demolitions. We are committed to reassessing their value and passing them on to future generations. Drawing from our extensive experience—having seen tens of thousands of items through direct purchases, markets, and auction houses—we carefully select and present only the most captivating pieces. This is something made possible only through the years of knowledge and expertise we have cultivated. Rather than focusing on the widely known facets of Japanese art and culture, we highlight the subtle beauty born from the everyday life of common people. It is this rediscovered beauty, steeped in history, that we strive to share with the world.
