Fine Period Regency Rosewood Sofa Table
About the Item
This period sofa table is a fine example of furniture made in the classical taste. Constructed in circa 1815 the table has good wood grain patterns showing the care taken in craftsmanship by the maker. Selected to create a book matched pattern across the top and then inlaid with satinwood with crossbanding in rosewood as well the table rests upon lyre shaped legs further decorated with large pin wheel mounts in brass with brass rods filling the lyre's open space all supported by saber legs ending in finely cast brass sabots and casters all original. The table contains two drawers with blind drawers on the reverse side allowing the table to free stand or be used against the back of a sofa as intended. Satinwood stringing is used throughout as a decorative line border on the top, apron, drawers, lyre and legs. The table is manageable closed but of a generous size opens to 64.50 inches.

- Condition:Wear consistent with age and use. The table is very intact but has had some veneer replacement mostly on the outside edge of the lyres were lifting would be expected. and there are two replacement brasses. When photographed the table was as found but scheduled for french polishing.
