Japanese Antique Huge Low Table 1900s-1940s / Sofa Table Wabi Sabi
About the Item
This is an old, huge low table made in Japan.
It features an extremely simple yet powerful structure, with an imposing one-piece top plate placed on a round base reminiscent of a stump. The tabletop and base are not fixed to each other, but are naturally stacked on top of each other. The cleanness of this structure evokes a sense of Japanese aesthetics.
Made in the early Showa period (1900s-1940s), the top panel is made of tochi (horse chestnut) and the base is made of zelkova. Both are famous woods representing Japan, and the luxurious solid wood texture adds depth and presence to the space.
The smooth, soft grain of the horse chestnut and the hard, strong bark of the zelkova. The individuality of each material complements each other, and when combined, they radiate even more power and beauty.
It is designed to be used not only as a table in front of a sofa, but also as a side table or a table of objects, and can be used for a wide range of purposes. It has an appealing appearance that does not disturb the space, yet quietly makes a statement.
Depending on the condition of the floor, the table may be slightly uneven, but in that case, it can be stabilized by placing a piece of wood between the tabletop and the base. In addition, since the top board is a single piece of wood, there will be slight distortion. Please understand this as a characteristic of the material.
The spirit of “wabi-sabi” is embodied in this table, which combines the strength of solid wood, the beauty of aging, and the simplicity of its structure. This is a piece that you can enjoy for many years to come, as its texture deepens with the passage of time.
Weight: approx. 80 kg for the tabletop, approx. 25 kg for the base.

Our Philosophy
Objects always tell the truth.
All I can do is just to face with them sincerely and give
them deep affection as much as I can.
There is no boundary of nationalities and of eras in beauty.
But I think now is the time we choose 'Japanese style' and it
will be the best way to remind us of what we are losing
today and to question us about an essence of beauty again.
I hope that you can touch the memories which the objects here have,
feel and think of something invisible but exists undoubtedly.
