About the Item

This is a very old Japanese wooden table. The material is made of pine wood. The year of production is written on the back of the table. It is written that it was made in June 1867, ``June 3rd year of Keio'', towards the end of the Edo period. It is heavy at 22 kg and has sturdy legs. Also, the atmosphere of the top plate is very cool. This is a car that gives you a sense of wabi-sabi. Also, the top plate is slightly curved. Please see detailed images. It will tilt when you place a large vase, etc. However, you can place cups, magazines, etc. without any problem, and you can use it as a sofa table. About the history of this product. 1868 was a historical turning point when the Edo period transitioned to the Meiji period, a time when Japan modernized. This table was made exactly one year before that, at the end of the Edo period. The name of this table is "Kiriban". The two largest letters on the back of the table are the kanji ``Kiriban''. "Kiri" = cut, "ban" = board In other words, it is a board for cutting food. It is probably a workbench used to cut vegetables. That's why there are countless cuts on the top of the table. Large tables like this were used to prepare meals for a large number of people, and were probably used in temples. This is because on the back of the table are written ``Unkyo-san'' and ``Purchased by the 33rd generation'', so ``Unkyo-san'' may be the name of the temple. Also, since it says that the 33rd owner purchased it, it is thought that it was used in a historical place. Tables like this with the year of production clearly written on them are rare, and those from the Edo period are especially rare.
