About the Item

This is a very old, very large low table made in Japan. It has a simple yet powerful design with a thick single piece of wood on top of a stump. It is made of precious wood used in the Meiji period (1860s-1920s). The top panel is made of a single piece of beautifully grained Japanese horse chestnut, while the base is made of a cedar stump with a strong presence. Both materials are very rare and hard to find nowadays. The top board is approximately 70 mm thick, giving it a sense of power and depth. The balance between the texture of the top board and the round, thick stump is exquisite, bringing natural energy to the space. The massive yet simple and warm appearance is the very essence of Japanese aesthetics. It can be used as a low table in the living room or as a side table in front of the sofa or by the wall. Although simple, the charm of this furniture deepens with each use. The tabletop is a single piece of wood, so it may warp slightly. It may rattle depending on the condition of the floor where it is installed. In this case, please place a piece of wood between the top board and the stump to adjust it.
