19th Century French Hand-crafted Pétrin Table

About the Item

This rare 19th century French hand-crafted pétrin table was originally constructed for the purpose of kneading, proving and storing bread dough. This particular table is larger than most and has two sliding front doors that expose an internal box where dough for bread was kept. Once raised, the bread was removed and placed on the hand-rubbed/polished table top and kneaded. The wood in this table is a tight and wonderful grain with such detail in the figuration. The construction is stout and simple with the idea of lasting for generations, just as this piece has done! Beautifully primitive with a rustic vibe, this rare find would be an amazing addition to so many decors.
