c. 1790 American Mahogany Tilt-top Table with Dish Edging
About the Item
This stunning 18th century tilt top table was beautifully crafted by, no-doubt, a very talented and creative cabinet maker of the late 1700’s. From the uniqueness of the overall design to the attention to detail in the carved cabriole legs that gracefully fall into scrolled slipper feet, nothing was spared. The top is made from unusually figured mahogany with tightly cut rectangular and butterfly joints that are seen from both table top and bottom.
The table also boasts a simple center baluster with two sophisticated turns that join into the circular base, adjoining each of the three legs. The underneath structure includes a brass hour-glass pin and clasp plate that allow for the raising and lowering of the top. With its rich amber/brown tones and lovely wood grain patterns, paired with its unique and detailed design, this table would be the perfect piece in so many room decors.
