About the Item

This most interesting industrial table or stand is incredibly sturdy and substantial in its construction, made from oak and pitch pine. The joints are dowled and screwed. This table is very heavy and has a most unusual look. It was originally used, we think, as a stand or low table for sculpture or painting large heavy objects. There is a crude chalk inscription which reads ex Broms gild which could be its origin. The Bromsgrove Guild of Handy Crafts produced many items including sculpture, cast iron and wrought iron objects. Their most noted work was the fact they made the gates to Buckingham Palace. The table has a thick solid oak waxed top showing signs of various paint splatter colours and subsequent cleaning off with a plane now offering an interesting surface. The table has been used in a home for many years as a coffee or low table and has a pleasing dry patination. English, circa 1910 Height 49cm x width 90cm x depth 75cM
