Antique Italian Renaissance Urn Trestle End Library Table Desk
About the Item
A rustic antique Italian trestle-end library table or desk.
Hand-crafted in Italy, likely the Alpine region of Northern Italy, second half of the 19th century, in Renaissance Revival taste, featuring a single board top, rectangular in shape and fitted with two dovetailed frieze drawers, supported on a pair of waisted vasiform urn-shaped legs flanking either side, joined by a wedged through tenon carved cross-stretcher.
Likely intended for a traveling merchant / trade, this table was made to be easily broken down, transported or stored, then reassembled. The top can be simply lifted off the base, separating it into two pieces, then the wedged through tenon joinery allows the base to easily be broken down further into three pieces.
Warm, rich, dark wood tones and nicely aged old patina, with lots of antique character, rustic warmth, and old world European charm.
Would make for a nice writing desk, library table, sofa table, oversized hall console, dining buffet / sideboard server.
