Antique late 19th century Solid Oak Dark Warm Brown English Tilt Top Table

About the Item

This stunning antique tilt-top side table was crafted in England towards the end of the 19th century, around 1880. Made entirely from beautiful European summer oak, the round tabletop has a diameter of 30.7 inches and is 0.8 inches thick. It rests on a gracefully turned central pedestal, which extends into three sculpted legs. The tabletop is attached to the pedestal with a hinge mechanism, and underneath, you'll find a finely forged latch that secures the top to the base when in the horizontal position. The mechanism works smoothly and reliably. When the tabletop is tilted upright, the table stands 44.1 inches tall. It remains sturdy on its organically shaped tripod base, reinforced underneath with a forged steel plate. The table has a warm, dark brown color with a deep sheen and rich patina, showing the character and history of its many years of use. It bears small signs of wear, consistent with its age and the life it has led. Due to its light weight and folding top, tables like this were used throughout the home as versatile side tables. In our workshop, this table was carefully cleaned and given a fresh protective wax finish. It is free of any damage, clean, and ready for use.
