  • Period Victorian Pontypool Tole Tray on Later Stand
    Located in Hudson, NY
This lovely old tray made circa 1860 is inlaid with mother of pearl and tole decorated with flowers set into a lustrous lacquer surface applied to the tinware tray. The flowers are painted in a lively and realistic manner and the tray is further decorated with a meandering border of flowers and vines in gilding and colors along the edge of the dished section of the tray and then again on the broad flat area of the tray's edge. The tray has a label from the 1840s affixed to the reverse that says it was restored and most likely at that time the stand was fashioned and painted to accompany the tray. The stand folds and can be easily moved to make it a perfect movable coffee table...
