About the Item

‘Morel’ mahogany dressing table. On either sides, two open bollows can hold removable receptacles. At the front of the entablature is a thin rectangular drawer, veneered inside with thuja burr, and with a silvered bronze ball shape finial. The top is surmounted by a round swinging bevelled mirror, rung with silvered bronze, and attached to a lyre-shaped support with silvered bronze fluted toothed wheels. The dressing table rests on four high legs fitted with silvered bronze ferrules. There is an initial sketch of the work. Provenance: Morel Collection Émile-Jacques Ruhlmann (1879-1933) was a French furniture designer and interior decorator and one of the most important and influential figures of the Art Deco movement, even considered by some the godfather of French Art Deco. His designs are characterized through elegance and purity of form, made with precious materials and expert craftsmanship, combining luxuriousness with modernity. Bibliography : Laurent Guelfucci, ‘Émile-Jacques Ruhlmann’, Galerie Guelfucci, Paris/Berlin, 2025.
