Wieland Unimold Wedge Form Lounge Chair
Located in Hanover, MA
Fantastic sculptural 1970's wedge-form lounge chair on triangular walnut plinth base by Wieland Furniture Company of Bay City, Michigan constructed with their patented Unimold molded plywood internal frame. Frequently misattributed to Adrian Pearsall. This sits a bit low for my abs but is very comfortable for lounging. Original upholstery reminiscent of Gaetano Pesce's UP chair. Very clean overall.
Wieland Furniture Co., a furniture design and manufacturing business led by four brothers, was once located in the Great Lakes Bay Region and made significant contributions to furniture technology despite its modest size. In the 1960s, Wieland Furniture employed about 60 workers in its 45,000 square foot plant in Bay City, Michigan and had developed an innovative process that reduced costs and significantly reduced waste.
The patented process was called Unimold, a method of making upholstered furniture with a molded plywood back and seat shell. This particular construction method eliminated 60-75% of the parts used when Wieland first began making upholstered frames.
The Unimold form-the heart of chairs and sofas that were manufactured at Wieland-was a 96 in.-long plywood shell molded to shape in a high frequency press. From this shell, Wieland trimmed different lengths to provide frames for sofas, sectionals, or chairs.
The proof of Wieland’s success was evidenced in the amount of sales since the Unimold first was introduced. Five years after introduction, sales skyrocketed over the million dollar mark with inquires for Unimold licensing for companies as far apart as Wales, Australia and Puerto Rico.
Daryle Wieland once explained that, “only two separate components are necessary to make Unimold furniture- the basic shell and ’S’ shaped molded plywood piece, which becomes the front and back rail when cut in two. Plywood molding in long lengths is difficult, because it is hard to get the high frequency waves out to the ends of the mold equally.”
The construction method is unbelievably strong because of the strength of curved plywood. In fact, Wieland could build 100 inch sofas...

Restored Raymond Loewy Inspired Yellow Chapter One Dresser by Broyhill Premier
Located in Chattanooga, TN
Two identical dressers are available. They are listed and sold individually. Please inquire if you are only interested in both.
Well it’s 2024, and Broyhill’s Chapter One Collection is officially harder to find and more sought after than the Raymond Loewy orginals. With all due respect to Raymond Loewy, there really is something magical about the Chapter One line. Maybe they’re just more fun and approachable. Maybe it’s the proportions and practicality. Regardless, they’re one of our favourite collections of all time. The restoration team pulled no punches on this Chapter One Yellow Dresser...

Large Raymond Loewy Inspired Yellow Chapter One Gentlemans Chest Armoire
Located in Chattanooga, TN
This model is nearly impossible to find. Moreover, yellow is the most sought after option. Combined with the fact that we've restored this piece to outstanding condition, we're certain you WILL NOT find a more sublime rendition.
The restoration team pulled no punches on this Chapter One Yellow Highboy Dresser, and the end result exceeded our expectations. Every inch of painted wood (including base) was professionally sanded primed and painted to match the original bright white. The laminate top and canary yellow molded plastic door / drawer fronts were finally buffed and polished to a glassy shine. Unlike the traditional Chapter One Highboy, this "Gentleman's Chest" version is step up in style and function. The open cabinet space on the left features a removable and adjustable height shelf, painted in gloss white of course. The right side has two hinged doors that open to reveal an additional (3) drawers. These also sport the signature white facades, and open / close with ease on the ball-bearing metal tracks. This dresser was built like a tank, but looks like a Lamborghini. It’s tough to see this one go, but we know it will be loved.
Broyhill’s Chapter one collection borrowed from the plastic mold injection designs made famous by legendary designer Raymond Loewy. Like Loewy, these Chapter One Dressers employ the futuristic use of color and materials in a way that had not been seen before. The bright yellow plastic captures the playful spirit of the 1970s. The Gentleman's Chest Cabinet is supported by a lacquered plinth base with rounded corners. This colorful, curvaceous case-good could have blended in nicely on the set of 2001 A Space Odyssey. The space-age look has never been more desirable, which may help explain the recent scarcity of all things Chapter One.
Chapter One Yellow Dresser...

The extraordinary parrot can be identified as a Mealy parrot, the largest of the Amazonas found on the Osa Peninsula of Costa Rica. They are distinuished from the Red-lored parrots by the absence of the red markings on the forehead and their large white eye ring. ABOUT
Lalique Glass
René Lalique (1860-1945) began his career as a jewellery apprentice at the age of 16, and by 1881 he was a freelance designer for many of the best-known Parisian jewellers. In 1885, he opened his own workshop on Place Gaillon in Paris, the former workshop of Jules Destape. In 1887, Lalique opened a business on Rue du Quatre-Septembre, and registered the "RL" mark the following year. In 1890, he opened a shop in the Opera District of Paris. Within a decade, Lalique was amongst the best-known Parisian jewellers.
In 1905, Lalique opened a new shop at Place Vendôme which exhibited not only jewellery, but glass works as well. It was close to the shop of renowned perfumer François Coty; in 1907, Lalique began producing ornate perfume bottles for Coty. The production of glass objects began at his country villa in 1902, and continued there until at least 1912. The first Lalique glassworks opened in 1909 in a rented facility in Combs-la-Ville, which Lalique later purchased in 1913. In December 1912, Lalique hosted an exhibition of Lalique Glass—as his glass would come to be known—at the Place Vendôme shop. During the First World War, the glassworks produced mundane items in support of the war effort. In 1919, work began on a new production facility in Wingen-sur-Moder, which opened in 1921. From 1925-1931, Lalique produced 29 models of hood ornaments; a mermaid statuette first produced in 1920 was also later sold as a hood ornament. During the 1920s and 1930s, Lalique was amongst the world's most renowned glassmakers.
René Lalique died in 1945. His son Marc Lalique took over the business, operating initially as "M.Lalique" and later as "Cristal Lalique...
