About the Item

An antique W. B. Simpson & Sons tile panel depicting a Neoclassical design. The set of four hand painted tiles form a beautiful decorative panel of a classically styled vase with scrolling ribbons and oak boughs with acorns, in an elegant tonal blue on a charming ochre background. The tile to the bottom of the panel is hand signed with 'W. B Simpson & Sons - 100 Saint Martins Lane, London. Displaying a Neoclassical flair, the set combined make the perfect decorative wall art for a period home looking to add style and grandeur. W. B. Simpson & Sons William Butler Simpson established his ceramics company in W. B. Simpson & Sons in 1833, after he inherited his talent as an artist from his father. Simpson gradually built up the business during his lifetime and even worked with tile manufacturers Maw & Co. In 1849, Simpson was presented a gold medal by the Society of Arts in recognition of his efforts to promote the improvement of design. Just a couple of years later, he received a bronze medal from the International Exhibition of Decorators, before being made a Freeman of The City of London. In 1852, his two son, Willian Federik and Edward Henry were made partners.
