"Destruction My Beatrice #9" by Aaron Sandnes. Aaron Sandnes is an artist born and currently working in Los Angeles. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art from the University of California, Irvine in 2003 and a Master of Fine Arts from the California Institute of the Arts in 2007. He was included in the 2008 California Biennial at the Orange County Museum, and has exhibited in numerous group shows and three major solo shows to date, two at Claudia Groeflin Galerie in Zurich in 2004 and 2007 and one at Laxart in Los Angeles in 2012. Sandnes was born in 1980 not far from where Rodney King was beaten up in 1991. The artist was deeply affected by the transforming political climate of Southern California during the 1990's, and a particular focus connecting all his works is issues of culture conflicts and cultural alienation. In his 2009 series "Destruction: My Beatrice," Sandnes took photos originating in the mid-century that predict a supposed "future," and destroyed them using heat, comp de-resolution and some other techniques, using destruction as a painterly gesture.
