About the Item
The artistry and industry of Portuguese azulejos tiles is a tradition that dates back many centuries; as a practical, architectural surface to cover both interior and exterior walls without missing the opportunity to make a strong visual impact. This collection of four, patinated tiles from the 18th century has been more recently assembled into a panel set in a wooden frame to appreciate the charm of their handpainted design (hence the subtle variation between them) incorporating stylized foliate motifs rendered in green, lavender, and yellow glazes on white-slip clay.
