Panels like this were worn by women on ceremonial occasions as overskirts; some may also have been made as tribute cloths. The underlying fabric is woven exclusively by men; the decoration is done solely by women, utilizing linear embroidery and cut pile techniques. The fiber is won from the underside of the fronds of the Raffia palm.
