Pair of 19th Century French Octagonal Repousse Copper Decorative Wall Chargers

About the Item

Decorate a wine cellar with this elegant pair of antique wall plaques. Created in France, circa 1880, and octagonal in shape, each charger made of repousse copper, depicts a cabaret scene in high relief with people drinking, dancing and playing cards in the manner of David Teniers; the platter is further embellished with dragon figures around the edges. The cheerful wall decorations are in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and adorn a rich patinated copper finish. Versatile, these wall decor could be placed in a game room, a den or a study! Hook in the back for easy handling. David Teniers the Younger or David Teniers II (1610-1690) was a Flemish Baroque painter who was an innovator in a wide range of genres such as history painting, genre painting, landscape painting, portrait and still life; he was particularly known for developing the peasant genre and the tavern scene.
