About the Item

Each charger depicting a not-unwilling maiden being carried off by centaurs. Signed in Greek and Cyrillic by artist G. Landgraf. As stated in the Royal Crown Derby book regarding the artist, "It is a constant source of regret that so little is known of this very fine painter, who worked at Osmaston Road between circa 1880 and 1885. His fine plaques have been reported in chapter 2 of this book. Before coming to Derby he had worked for a while at Brown-Westhead, Moore at Cauldon Place." (Langraf previously worked at the Royal Manufactory in Berlin).
