Sculptural Lava Glass with an 18th Century Italian Fragment and Metal Crown Base

About the Item

18th century Italian gilded base with a polished green lava glass point and adorned with green mother of pearl with gold highlights and mounted on an antique metal crown base. The gilded base originally came from a historical church in Italy. The polished green lava glass is created when magma is rapidly cooled and it creates a unique sculpture with natural forming indentions. The point was cut and polished to completion, but parts of the glass are left in their organic form to resemble a natural-forming sculpture combined with the hand of man. The piece is put together by Jean O'Reilly Barlow, the artist and creative director of Interi. The date of manufacture reflects when she transformed the piece and the period shows that the Italian fragment is originally 18th century. Together, the historical gilded fragment and lava glass point create a sculptural and contemporary work of art.
