About the Item

A set of 4 patterned English chintz polychrome wall tiles by renowned tile designer Delft. Dating to circa 1850, each 5 inch tile showcases classically hand decorated floral patterns in a vibrant blue, yellow, and ochre. These tiles have remained in good quality condition for over 170 years, now ready to be displayed in their new home for many more. We have 2 other sets of tiles available in a similar pattern with which you could create a large patterns in multiple ways. Delft Tiles Delft dates back as far as the early 1500s. The Dutch city of Delft, after which the pottery is named, was the major centre of its production. Tiles and pottery made from Delft are applied with a tin and magnesium glaze that gives them their distinctive purple-blue colour. Their well-known blue and white tiles appeared around 1620 and became world famous, the tiles often painted with scenes from daily life and used to decorate kitchens, chimneypieces, staircases and more. We have two other sets available.
