About the Item
Victorian copper jelly mold, made by W M Still & Co in London, dated 1903 and marked with the British Broad Arrow no. 53. This symbol indicates that the item is government property. The Office of Ordnance, established in 1544 and later becoming the Board of Ordnance in 1597, was responsible for supplying guns, ammunition, and equipment to the Royal Navy. This responsibility was transferred to the War Office in 1857.
Since 1661, the Broad Arrow was used as a royal symbol for all metal objects supplied or issued by the War Office under the Public Store Act of 1875. It can be found on metal boxes, flatware, whistles, musical instruments, medical tools, and various military equipment.
The mold shows general surface wear and a few minor dents but has no holes.
