"The Hourglass, " Art Deco Drawing with Nude Couple by Goor, 1951
About the Item
Haunting and beautiful, this drawing of a young nude couple facing death, in his Classic shroud and holding an hourglass aloft, was made in 1951 by Gaston Goor, who was famous for illustrating a number of books by Roger Peyrefitte and others in France. Goor was deeply influenced by the paintings he found at the Louvre in his youth, and his work often depicts male figures with an implicit, or sometimes explicit, homoerotic theme. Goor designed vases for the famous Sevres porcelain works, as well as for the Mougin pottery company in France. The drawing is ink on paper. (The dimensions include matte and frame.).
