About the Item

Architectural drawing in red pencil on paper, depicting a design for a tabernacle gate with the words "Ave Maria" in the center, crowned with floral motifs and kneeling angels. The work, carefully proportioned on a scale of 1:12, combines technical rigor and artistic sensitivity, typical of Italian production between the two world wars. The geometric shapes and monumental letters evoke the decorative language of the 20th century and sacred Futurism, where religiosity merged with the stylized modernity of the period. Preserved in a contemporary black wooden frame, the sheet shows natural yellowing over time, attesting to its historical authenticity. The decorative layout, with monumental letters and stylized figures on the sides, recalls the aesthetics of the Renaissance reinterpreted in a modern key, as in the works of 20th-century Italian art and late sacred Futurism (think of Mario Sironi, Giovanni Muzio, or the ecclesiastical furnishings designed in the 1920s-1940s). The design shows a balance between sacredness and rationalized design, a language that was widely used in the years when Italian sacred art sought to blend modernity and tradition. The inscription "Ave Maria" in the center and the kneeling figures on either side (probably angels) indicate the Marian theme of the project. The red pencil technique (red chalk or red pencil) and geometric precision are typical of Italian architectural and decorative drawings from the 1920s to the 1940s, a period in which many architects and artists combined modernist styles with traditional religious motifs.
