Pastel portrait of a gentleman 1810-1830

About the Item

Attractive antique pastel portrait of a gentleman. He can be an instant ancestor! 1810-1830 and in a period, likely original frame. Frame is distressed (which some pay extra for)... there are chipping, scratches and wear typical of two hundred years of unrestored or conserved and used. The charcoal is quite nicer than typical and his visage is bright and attractive. Modest wear overall, but it's behind glass, which appears to have significantly helped preserve this one. I did not remove from the glass because the charcoal appears to be laid down and likely pasted to the backing board, so there isn't a way to examine the back of the charcoal short conservation removal and analysis. A picture of the back is provided. Enjoy shopping on 1stDibs... where vetted vendors offer material not easily found anywhere else!

Edwin Scheier 1964 Modernist Sculpture of Man Riding Jaguar Which Has Eaten Man
By Edwin and Mary Scheier
Located in Mobile, AL
An early and fully three dimensional sculpture by Edwin Scheier exhibiting a symbolic or mythological representation that represents the circle of life. The bent wood, carving, piercing and rope work are all manifest at a high level in this quixotic almost whimsical work of 1964. Edwin (and Mary) spent over a decade in the 1960's and 70's in Oaxaca, Mexico where he often worked with Guanacaste wood and local fibers, to great success. A perfect compliment to a mid century modern interior and a must have go along with any major mid century and/or Scheier ceramics...
