About the Item
Framed series of American modern pen and ink drawings, sixteen portraits of Boston "pols" and Italian American civic leaders, all of whom were the famous 'Friends of Joe Tecce's' of the eponymously named restaurant in Boston's North End.
The frame is sixteen feet long by one foot tall.
At the end of the 1970's/beginning of the 1980's Joe Tecce's restaurant, in association with Ackerly Outdoor Advertising resolved to celebrate the great and the good of Boston's civic leadership and commissioned artist Daniel Varoujan Hejinian to develop the Gallery of Grand Bostonians, a tribute to the many citizens, past and present, who have made an impact on the Boston area. These portraits, around 100 in total, were displayed in several of these custom frames along Tecce's walls.
The restaurant was an unfortunate casualty of the lengthy Big Dig construction project and the restaurant closed in 2010 after four decades of serving the likes of Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, Thomas P. TIP O'Neill, et al. The contents of the historic restaurant were sold at auction.
