About the Item
in the manner of Jean-Baptiste Pillement (Lyon, 1728-1808) depicting an oriental landscape with Chinese figures under a pagoda, the top with garlands of flowers and birds.
J. Pillement was a renowned artist who became painter to Marie Antoinette. He studied in Paris and Vienna and worked in oil and pastels creating a theatrical style, always with attention to detail. He exhibited at "The Free Society Of Artists" and his work today can be seen in museums throughout France as well as the U.S.
