Taken from the bank of the Tiber, Castel Sant'Angelo is represented in the foreground, while in the distance you can see the domes of St. Peter's Basilica. Castel Sant'Angelo or Mole Adrianorum, also known as Hadrian's Mausoleum, was begun by the emperor Hadrian in 125 as his funeral mausoleum, and completed by Antonino Pio in 139. In front of the building is the pons Aelius, now the Sant'Angelo bridge , which with its arches is reflected in the waters of the Tiber, generating pleasant plays of color.
