About the Item
Mary G. Preminger (1920-1997) the essence of her work reflects a pure harmony and form, essential elements in the body of work that remains intact today. She believed art should utilize and reflect what we have learned and the way in which we live. Preminger began as a fashion model in the 1950's. During this period she began to paint, met and married film director Otto Preminger. Her artistic endeavors soon moved into sculpture as well as furniture and textile design. She divorced Preminger in the late 1950s and, as a result, he had her blacklisted - which is one of the reasons there is very little information available about her to this day. Preminger even went to the extent of buying up her art and having it destroyed. In the years since her death, remaining artworks as well as stories about Mary Preminger's life have surfaced to reveal a complex and extremely talented artist and woman. Acrobats is a fine example of her contemporary paintings.
