Exceptionally fine 19th century allegorical painting of chastity. Watercolor painted by Italian artist Agostino Caironi, dated 1859 Milan. Caironi Agostino Milan 1820-1907 A pupil of L. Sabatelli at the Brera Academy, he learned from his master that sharpness of drawing which earned him, in 1860, his appointment as professor of figure elements. In the works of literary (Renzo and Lucia nel Lazzaretto, exhibited in Brera in 1842) and historical (Enrico IV places the sword in the hands of his son, 1847, Milan, Pinacoteca di Brera) he followed the hayezian address. As a fresco Caironi created the neo-medieval decorations in the churches of Sant'Eufemia (1870) and Sant'Eustorgio (1871-1881 ca.) in Milan. In 1859 he won the Mylius prize for "fresco painting" with a subject in commemoration of E. Mylius.
