This is a beautiful oil on canvas painting of the view of the Ducal Palace and the entrance to the Piazza San Marco Canal in Venice by the renowned William Raymond Dommersen (1850 - 1927), signed lower right. William Raymond Dommersen came from a famous family of Dutch artists who moved to England in the 1860’s and changed the family name from Dommershuizen. He was the son of Peter Cornelis Dommersen and travelled around Europe and England painting marine and town scenes.
