Circa 1900-1920 oil painting on cardboard board by Thomas Riss of a "Weathered Old Man". Thomas Riss, Austria, 1871-1959; signed lower left. Authenticated by Sotheby's on Oct. 4, 1997 at the Ackland Art Museum in Chapel Hill, NC. he as an engaging grin, bright eyes & colorful clothing. Part of a splendid group of vivid portraits of elderly farmers painted from 1900-1930s. Wood & gesso frame elaborately carved - upper left corner repaired. Painting: 12 1/8" x 9 1/8".
