A view of city roof-tops, church steeple and brown rolling hills is seen from the fenced terrace. Signed lower left. Presented in a gold-tone textured and smooth metal frame, matted and glazed. Dimensions: Sight: 35 1/2" x 23 1/2" Frame: 40 1/4" x 28 1/4" x 1" Condition: good, no damage noted

    A beautiful, engaging, and somewhat rare original large oil on board nude painting by French artist Charles Levier (1920-2003). Levier was born in 1920 to a French father and an American mother in Corsica. At the age of 17, he studies at the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Arts Decoratifs. His studies were interrupted by World War II during which time Levier served in the French Army in North Africa and later became a liaison officer with the U.S. Office of Strategic Services. This would inspire him to move to the United States to pursue a career in art (he spent his future years between America and France). His first one-man show took place in 1949 in Lyons at the Galerie Constantine. The following year he had his first solo exhibition in America. In 1955 his work was on exhibit at the Galleries de Colisee in Paris. Today Levier's work can be found in numerous prominent collections and museums including: The Museum of Modern Art in Paris The Menton Museum in Paris The Atlanta Museum, GA The Seattle Museum, WA The Evansville Museum, IN The New Orleans Museum, LA The San Diego Museum, CA The work is signed by Levier at the lower left within the image.
