About the Item
Very large painting by the Ivorian artist Well Rimo. From the streets to the auction room, Rimo has had an exceptional career. In March 2023, he sold two of his paintings at auction, one for 10,000 euros, and the other for 13,000 euros.
Well is a painter from Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, which he left in 2016 to escape the violence that was occurring there. He arrived in Montpellier in 2017, where he eventually found refuge in the solidarity workshop of Rondelet. Through hard work, he became the artist known as Well Rimo.
Well Rimo's works reflect his life, the culture, and the people of his home country. His influences are varied: outsider art, "Bad painting" (Basquiat, Kokian...), not forgetting that of the Ivorian painter Aboudia.
He gained attention in May 2021 when, during the Cannes Film Festival, he handed his portrait to the American director Spike Lee, the jury president.
