About the Item

Unique painting from listed Canadian artist Dennis Geden. Titled and signed, Kneeling Woman* August 12, 1970 Dennis Geden. Written on front in smaller letters, Arms removed Aug 26 and used as sock stretchers. Dennis Geden is a founding member of North Bay’s artist-run centre, the White Water Gallery, and served as Director/Curator of the W.K.P. Kennedy Public Art Gallery from 1989-1994 and 1997-2003. Dennis also served on the Board of Directors for Visual Arts Ontario from 1991-1993, and the Board of Directors of the Ontario Association of Art Galleries, from 2000-2005. Dennis Geden’s studio work and research interests focus primarily on contemporary and historical figurative/narrative art. His paintings and prints have been exhibited throughout Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Europe. He has participated in artist residencies at Atelier Desjobert in Paris, France; Curwen Studio in London, UK; Fringe Research in Toronto, Canada; and at Studenica Monastery in the former Yugoslavia. Dennis has also received commissions from the Government of Ontario and the Art Gallery of Ontario, and is the recipient of research grants from the Ontario Arts Council and the Canada Council for the Arts. Major survey shows of his work have been presented at Canada House, London, UK and the Canadian Cultural Centre, Paris, France with assistance from Canadian External Affairs. His work is held in notable public collections including the Canada Council’s Art Bank, Ottawa; Bibliotheque Nationale, Paris, France; Montreal Museum of Fine Art, Canada; Corvalis Collection, Oregon State University, USA; Tate Gallery, London, England; and Curwen Studio Archive, Cambridge, England.
