EARLY 19th CENTURY PORTRAIT OF A GENTLEMAN IN UNIFORM

About the Item

Splendid oil portrait on canvas of a gentleman in uniform, identified as Professor Moses Bosisio, mayor of Monza, who died in 1846, as reported on a plaque on the back of the painting. The Bosisio family was one of the most important and noble in Monza and the subject of the portrait was part of it. The gentleman is portrayed standing, looking to the right, wearing typical clothes of the time. Next to him you can see an armchair and a small desk on which a book and a letter are placed. With his right hand he holds the glove on the table, while with his left he holds his hat, just below him the sword tied to his belt is visible. This portrait, created by an artist of the Lombard school of the early 19th century, is extraordinarily realistic and detailed, capable of capturing and transmitting the emotions and stories of his past life. Finally, the frame is original and contemporary with the painting, in carved and gilded wood. Measurements: H x W x D overall 120 x 89 x 4cm; H x W work only 107 x 75.5cm
