Early 20th Century Pair of English Coastal & Nautical Watercolors

About the Item

Early 20th century pair of coastal & nautical watercolors, English. Signed H. Foster. Original mats & frames (glass on one replaced). H Foster is consistently praised as a fine master of maritime art, documented by Sotheby's to 1919. However, only a minimal number of pieces are known & he seems to have slipped away in history. One painting depicts a choppy sea filled with ships. The second is a coastal scene with fishing boats awaiting the rising tide (note the industrial smokestacks in the distance). Minor loss near clouds on one. Framed: 17 11/16" x 22 15/16" x 13/16". We are a family business that has been a major source for the selective buyer for over 90 years.
