About the Item
Ed Kerns (American, 1945), “Strands Grow”, signed, titled and dated verso, in brass slat frame. From a series of 100 painting commissioned by art collector Larry Aldrich in 1971/72. Kerns refers to this first series of paintings as ‘Lyrical Abstraction’. The series was wildly praised on its inception, sending Kerns’ career in New York on a meteoric trajectory.
New York Times’ art critic John Russell described Kerns’ work from this period “as the best of a new generation of the New York School”. Kerns’ has enjoyed a long association with the New York galleries AM Sachs , Rosa Esman, and Tibor De Nagy. His career has spanned 45 years and has been exhibited in over 38 solo shows and 130 group shows in New York, Paris, San Francisco, Washington D.C., Chicago, Denver, Rome, Madrid, Osaka, Munich, and Mexico City. Kerns still shows regularly, and is the Head of Lafayette College’s Art Department in Easton PA.
